Lactation Support

As a Certified Lactation Counselor, my goal is to educate and assist you on a successful breastfeeding journey. I have assisted thousands of families with breastfeeding through both prenatal education and hands-on postpartum support.

Comprehensive prenatal Breastfeeding Preparation classes are available in a group setting or privately in your own home. This class will give you an understanding of how lactation works and how to get it off to a good start, avoiding the common problems that can really derail your experience as new parents.

Postpartum Lactation Support Visits are for after baby comes and are individualized to your unique needs and concerns. Visits are available in your home or even at the hospital. Many parents find it helpful to have a lactation specialist come by in the early days just to get some reassurance that everything is going well and to check in on latch, positioning, arrival of mature milk, etc. We will be in contact to make sure that the strategy we have established during the visit is working for you and your baby and can adjust the plan as the need arises.

Other issues we can work through together include:

  • Positions and comfort
  • Nipple pain
  • Breast pain
  • Difficulty latching
  • Low milk supply
  • Inadequate weight gain
  • Pumping/bottle feeding
  • Breastfeeding twins
  • Weaning
  • Any issues related to breastfeeding your child

Individual assistance can be particularly helpful if the baby has been separated from the nursing parent (baby came early and required a stay in the NICU, for example) or if there is a history of breast reduction surgery, in which case milk supply needs to be closely monitored and possibly actively built up from the start.

Home visits can be really helpful for the new family; even if things are going well, breastfeeding can be emotionally charged for new moms because we know how important it is and because we cannot see the food going into the baby.

Breastfeeding should not be uncomfortable. It is possible to resolve most issues around nursing so that you can have a successful, enjoyable breastfeeding relationship with your baby. The fee for initial home consultations is $375; for follow-up visits, the fee is $275. Receipts/superbills can be provided to submit for reimbursement through your insurance company.
